Saved but Soulish

I was listening to a Joyce Meyer podcast the other day and she used this phrase… “Saved but Soulish”.  I had never heard that before and it perked my interest.  She went on to explain that so many of us are on our way to heaven but have no victory.

I remember learning years ago that we have a body, a soul and a spirit.  The body is our flesh.  The Spirit is God’s Spirit within us if we have accepted Jesus as our Saviour and the soul….

The soul is our mind, our wills and our emotions.  Where most of us operate.  Which is why Joyce Meyer described most Christians as “Saved but Soulish.”

We let our emotions rule our actions.  The circumstances naturally dictate how we feel – unless we fight them and trust in the Lord to work what we can not see.

Our wills – what we want… well, lets be honest – how many of us can be happy when we don’t get what we want?!  Talk to me on Valentine’s Day…..when we don’t get what we “want”. Will we still be happy?

And our minds.  We think thoughts that calculate people’s motives, actions.  We think and project into the future to the point we sometimes get ourselves into a tizzy!

So how do we not be Soulish on our way to heaven?

Replace bad thoughts with good thoughts

  •     2 Corinthians 10:5  We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the        knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

That means we think about what thoughts creep into our mind.  If they are not in line with Christ and what He says is true and right we cast it out.. Replace bad thoughts with good thoughts

  • Rely on the Lord for His strength to go against our emotions

Philippians 4:13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength.

Every time we ask the Lord for strength to do something that is in His will, he will give it to us! Lets ask – then act accordingly

When we go against our mind, will and emotions to glorify the Lord we are less moody, less judgemental and not always trying to control every circumstance.  We can draw others to know us and know our Lord by acting out our faith.

This is the right way to journey through this life… Saved and Victorious!
